Our senses are a beautiful part of how we are fearfully and wonderfully made. Not only do they help us to learn about and engage with the world around us – they play a huge role in how we grow and develop and in keeping us safe and ‘regulated’.
Our senses are a hugely significant part of our day to day life and of our development and our learning. However, it is estimated that as many as 15 percent of children may struggle in some way with sensory processing.
In this session, we’ll be unpacking 8 sensory systems – the 5 main ones that are most well known, along with 3 others that are not discussed as often but that play a huge part in how we interact with the world around us.
We’ll be looking at a tool called the Window of Tolerance as we explore the role that our senses play when we feel overwhelmed but also how valuable they can be in helping to regulate us.
And we’ll finish with some very practical tools that we can use to help children engage with their senses and feel calm, safe and what we call – regulated.
Please note – this session can be completed as a 2 hour online training session OR as a fuller in person training day.
