One of the beautiful things about the world in which we live is how diverse it is – our Father God is a wonderful creator! As people we reflect that creativity – each uniquely and fearfully and wonderfully made.

Neurodiversity refers to the diversity of human brains and is an umbrella term used to remind us that we all think, process information, behave and communicate in different ways.

While the beauty of neurodiversity means that we are all unique – most of us would be described as neurotypical. So, while we might think, behave, communicate and process in slightly different ways – most of those ways are fairly similar and generally follow broad ‘expected patterns’.

When a person’s brain processes lots of things in a different way to lots of people – they might be described as neurodivergent.

There are different types of neurodivergence including ADHD, autism, dyslexia, dyspraxia and Tourettes syndrome and it is estimated that around 1 in 7 people in the UK are neurodivergent – that is more than 15% of the population.

In this session we will explore neurodiversity in a little more detail and we’ll consider how we can create safe spaces and bring safe approaches that enable EVERY child to feel seen, heard, included and safe.

In this session we will explore ...

  • Understanding Neurodiversity
  • The importance of Sensory Awareness
  • Using the Wonderful Me! STARS of Safety Tool to create safe spaces
